Kicking Back in Chapala

It was a long journey overland from Mexico’s Pacific Coast to Pico de Orizaba. Luckily for us we got to break it up with a visit to Jessa’s uncle’s place in Chapala. Always a character and a (frequently) self proclaimed red neck, Gord and his lovely companion Christina were great hosts. We ended up staying a week in his beautifully colourful home while we had some work done on the rig. Big thanks to Gord’s neighbour George for hooking us up with a great mechanic. We love the Mexican people, they are always kind and helpful. Chapala boasts one of the most pleasant climates in the world with dry air and consistent moderate temperatures year round. It’s a big hit with Canadian and American retirees. Next door is the pleasant town Ajijic, popular with artists from around the world. We soaked it up after the sweltering heat of the coast, a perfect intermission between ocean and mountain adventures.
